Financial globalisation: Retreat or reset?

There’s been a recent and significant retreat in European financial integration and a retrenchment of global banking (although capital inflows into emerging markets and FDI are only just below their recent peaks). What are we to make of this shift? A more compartmentalised global financial system could certainly reduce the likelihood of a financial crisis spreading from one country to the next.

Lawler: Updated Table of Distressed Sales and Cash buyers for Selected Cities in May

Economist Tom Lawler sent me the updated table below of short sales, foreclosures and cash buyers for several selected cities in May.  Look at the two columns in the table for Total "Distressed" Share. In almost every area that has reported distressed sales so far, the share of distressed sales is down year-over-year - and down significantly in many areas.
